DICKINSON COUNTY HEALTHCARE SYSTEM (alternate)
Commissioner will participate in a combined committee that will
focus on the development of partnerships with other health care
DICKINSON COUNTY TOWNSHIPS ASSOCIATION
The Townships Association promotes the interests of township government by fostering strong, vibrant communities; advocating legislation to meet 21st century challenges; developing knowledgeable township officials and enthusiastic supporters of township government; and encouraging ethical practices of elected officials who uphold the traditions and unique characteristics of township government and the values of the people of Michigan.
DICKINSON -IRON COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES AGENCY
Provides meal programs for two counties, weatherization and a number of other vital services, including, but not limited to adult day care/respite care, volunteer services programming, emergency homing for veterans and deliverable fuel payment assistance. Works in collaboration with county Senior centers.
DICKINSON/IRON HEALTH BOARD
Michigan law directs state and local governments to safeguard the public's health. The Dickinson-Iron District Board of Health is the governing entity for the Department. This authority is derived from Act 368 of the Public Acts of 1978; the Michigan Public Health Code.
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES
The Department of Human Services (DHS) is Michigan's public assistance, child and family welfare agency. DHS directs the operations of public assistance and service programs through a network of over 100 county offices around the state.
Commissioner researches and writes grants for Dickinson County, provided matching funds are available if required by the granting authority. Final authority to submit grant request rests with the full County Board of Commissioners.
MEDICAL CONTROL BOARD
Commissioner serves as a liaison person for the county board with regard to activities taking place with EMS and Emergency Management in the county.
MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES (MAC) FINANCE COMMITTEE
Meets monthly in Lansing (also via teleconference) to discuss pending legislation, state intiatives and best practices that impact county government. Volunteer position.
Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, Michigan is a Tri-County, long term skilled care facility that accepts Medicare and Medicaid. Pinecrest has 160 beds, which is significantly more than the average for all Nursing Homes.
PLANNING & ZONING
The County Planning Commission's responsibilities are to conduct studies, investigations and surveys relative to the economic, social and physical development of the county; formulate comprehensive plans and make recommendations for county development; cooperate with all departments of state and federal governments and other public agencies concerned with programs directed toward economic, social and physical development of the county; and consult and collaborate with adjacent counties to maximum coordination of county programs.
UPWARD TALENT COUNCIL- ESCANABA
This is the legal entity that provides the structure for financial and grants management for the activities of MICHIGAN WORKS! The Job Force Board and its mission. It is a leader in promoting regional economic progress and maintaining a competitive workforce essential to the quality of life in our region.
